The Space

For beauty and versatility, our historic interiors, gardens, and patios are the perfect setting for your New Orleans wedding, reception or rehearsal dinner. The Property is yours for the day – for preparation, decoration, dressing and set up. Ask about our weekend packages that include rehearsal party, ceremony, and reception – plus overnight stays.

Style the event yourself or with the assistance of a planner. A professional caterer is required. You may bring your own beverages, but they must be professionally served. We have recommendations for caterers and servers. Included are tables and chairs, a sound system and a security guard. Prepare in our separate dressing rooms. Stay overnight in our Garden Cottage. Choose either four or five hours of event time. We are conveniently located on the Esplanade Ridge National Historic District about one-half mile from the French Quarter - $7.50 by Uber, Lyft or taxis. There is plenty of on-street parking.

The Property

Is a much-loved, honored and admired New Orleans Landmark, built circa 1858, situated on one of the oldest, continuous public ways in the Mississippi Valley, and furnished with antiques appropriate to the date of its construction.

The house contains five parlors, a dining room and kitchen, four restrooms and two private rooms for dressing and preparation.

The gardens, among the largest in old New Orleans, are landscaped, beautifully illuminated for events, and feature flagstone patios, raised beds and fountains.

The Property is available for outdoor receptions attended by up to two hundred guests, and for outdoor ceremonies with up to three hundred guests. But it is also particularly suitable as a venue for smaller events, including “destinations,” with guest lists of up to sixty (60). Our garden gazebo and historic interiors each provide an intimate setting for a ceremony attended by as many as sixty guests, which may be followed by a seated dinner or buffet reception in the dining room and parlors.

Ceremonies and Receptions

Our front garden locations are the usual choice for larger ceremonies, which are followed by receptions on the patios.  The bridal party often leads a traditional “second line” jazz parade from ceremony to reception. Bands or DJs, and sometimes both, provide the reception music. Although most events are catered “buffet style,” seated dinners and crawfish boils occur here as well.

Our historic interiors are always included in the rental; and invariably become a part of all Benachi House events, both small and large. In addition to our downstairs common areas - the central hall, parlors and dining room - event space includes three parlors or salon rooms on the second floor.

Events attended by up to sixty (60) guests may occur indoors, outdoors or both. This flexibility also provides inclement weather alternatives. The parlors are an excellent small ceremony location. A parlor ceremony may be followed by a seated dinner or buffet in the parlors and dining room, and may include music and dancing on our front gallery or on our patio. The garden gazebo provides an outdoor alternative as a ceremony location for which guests may be seated on the patio of the Cottage. 

We require that the bar close and the music end no later than 10:00 PM.  There is no charge for the times required for set-up and break-down-clean-up.  We require that all DJs and performers observe the Noise Ordinance of the City of New Orleans, which imposes limits on sounds measured at a location about 175’ from our back door.  Our Security Guard monitors the music volume. If the limit is exceeded, we will ask that it be adjusted.  Three simple measures forestall problems: a cooperative DJ or bandleader, performing groups of no more than five members and locating the dance floor next to the music source. 

Free of charge, we provide the Property for engagement photographs and for rehearsal. We ask only that rehearsal be scheduled so as not to conflict with another event that may be scheduled on rehearsal day.

Flexibility also Provides Inclement Weather Alternatives

The parlors are an excellent small ceremony location. A parlor ceremony may be followed by a seated dinner or buffet in the parlors and dining room, and may include music and dancing on our front gallery or on our patio.

Your Way

You may design, decorate and personalize the Benachi House setting to make your event truly distinctive and memorable.  You may bring a planner, decorator and florist; or implement your plans with assistance from only friends and family. Our hosts are responsible for set up and decoration. A setup service is available for an additional charge.  Lighted candles indoors are not permitted. Otherwise, decoration is up to you.  Four restrooms are available to the wedding party and their guests.

We provide a security guard, a Behringer portable sound system, one-hundred fifteen (115) chairs, and dining and serving tables for about one hundred fifty guests. Our Resident Manager will be present for your event and is available in advance for guidance and suggestions. She may also be employed personally for additional services, including comprehensive planning or “day-of” event management. Any required additional equipment is readily available for rent from our Trusted Providers.

You may choose from among our list of Trusted Providers, or bring your own. For catering and bartending, the provider(s) must provide adequate staffing for set-up, service and cleanup.

The set- up of tables, chairs and decorations is the hosts’ responsibility, which may be fulfilled by planner, the hosts (with families and friends), or by the caterers.  At the conclusion of the event, the caterers are required to bag all leftovers and garbage; to gather for pickup all rented equipment, including dishes, glassware and utensils; and to return our equipment to our storage building.  We can also provide set-up and/or cleanup–breakdown services for additional charges. 

To dress the grounds further and provide an inclement weather contingency, one or more tents are often rented and installed on our patio.  Heaters, coolers and fans are also often used and are readily available from our Trusted Providers.
